Emma Davis has been involved in sports as long as she could remember. Since the age of eight, she has been shooting baskets, hitting change-ups, and doing The Husky Rumble during her free time. “It gets you more involved with the school, and it not only keeps you in shape but helps you grow as a person and connect with other people,” said Davis.

Among the three sports, softball has to be her absolute favorite.

“I would say that feeling I get when I hit the ball gives me a such a rush that it makes me look forward to every game we play,” stated Davis. Her last season was one of the most successful she’s ever had, scoring five home-runs for her team.

Davis has had to overcome challenges throughout her sports career. In cheerleading, the hardest aspect of her season would have to be the Homecoming routine. They always perform a new routine in front of the student body at the Homecoming assembly.

“It involves a lot of cramming of practices until we perfect the routine. If we’re in a bad state, we will keep going until someone gets hurt or until we get it right.”

In softball, one of the most frustrating parts of playing the game is when she goes against a tough pitcher. They will purposefully pitch very quickly or pitch very slowly to catch her off guard.

“Change-ups, by far, are the most difficult part of the game, and I hate when they throw slow because it’s hard to determine when to hit,” says Davis.

Whether playing a forward or post during her games, Davis puts in full effort every minute. The hardest part for her is when they lose. “It was really a bummer when our team didn’t put a lot of effort into a game, and we lose like with what happened at Greenville.” Despite their loss, she always thinks of the best advice she’s ever been given through her career.

“Keep your head up even if you make a mistake. Don’t dwell on it; use it as motivation to do better,” said by teammate Sadie Knee.

Davis would like to play either softball or basketball in college. She hasn’t received any offers yet, but she hopes to have some later in her season. When asked if she had a team she was going to miss most she replied, “It’s hard to decide because I grew such a big bond with everyone in my sports, and it’ll be hard to let go of all of them. I’ll miss playing for Northern for sure.”
