Dance Team is made up of Northern and Eastern dancers who perform routines in Hip Hop, Poms, and Jazz at competitions, home basketball games, and the occasional football game.

“Hip hop is my favorite style to perform because it’s so upbeat, and the crowd gets into it and enjoys it as much as we do,”  Kendall Bailey.

The FHNE Dance Team consists of 15 dancers: 7 girls from Northern and 8 from Eastern. All of the dancers have a history of dance or currently dance at a separate studio/company.  Most students get a chance to see the dance team at football or basketball games, but they also compete almost every weekend.

Competitions are held at high schools all over Michigan, with dance teams competing in the usual categories (jazz, poms and hip hop). Some dancers choose to compete in the solo competition, but that category is optional and not available at every competition.

The usual competition day for the Dance Team starts out with a chance to go through the dance, getting used to the space and the competition floor. Then they practice in a separate room to ensure that timing and motions are together. Once all of the teams compete in each category, scores are released and the winners are awarded.

The FHNE Dance Team has a history of placing near the top at competitions. The competition season has just begun, and this season is expected to be a good one.

Senior Zoey Gendler has been on the team since the beginning of high school. “Being on this team since freshman year has showed me how to grow into a leader, be a part of a team, and given me some of my closest friendships.”

Dance Team is a sport that is enjoyed at sporting events by many people but overlooked when it comes to their competitions. They are talented and work hard at what they do. The Dance Team is definitely a sport worth leaping into.
