Matt Pakkala
A 17 year old male with brown hair can be seen wearing a different sweatshirt each day. From school to relaxing at home, he finds comfort in his sweatshirts (ranging from the Detroit Tigers to the Xavier Musketeers). Many people may not find the grueling task of slamming opponents into the boards comforting. However, Matt’s love for playing hockey started at age 4. Looking back, he says, “time has definitely gone by fast.” Time certainly does fly when you're having fun! In order to fulfill his day with fun, Matt Pakkala can be found at Patterson Ice Arena. As a defensive player, Matt has the job of slamming opposing players against the boards. Matt Pakkala, number eleven for the Forest Hills Northern/Eastern hockey team, spends 12 hours a week (during the season) practicing and playing hockey. Wayne Gretzky inspires Matt to continue to grow as a hockey player. He notes that Gretzky is quoted saying, “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been.” Trying to imitate this in his life, Matt continues to get better, skate faster, and grow stronger. As a returning Varsity player on the FHNE hockey team, he has the goal to “help lead [his] team to win a state championship.”In addition to hockey, Matt finds laughter as a vital part of his life. Even though Matt Pakkala describes himself as “a calm and quiet person,” one of Matts’ good friends, Noah Crampton, discusses that you may not expect Matt to be funny, but Matt is one of the funniest people he knows. The main reason his jokes are so funny is due to his delivery. Matt stays calm, straight-faced, and subtle while delivering his jokes. While Matt may not initially show his laughter, he says, “all you got to be able to do is make yourself laugh.” With his joking manner aside, Matt notes: “it’s the little things in life, like laughter, that get [him] through the day.”   By: Logan Coles
